India, a country long regarded as an emerging global power coincides with deeper strategic relations relations with the world leaders. the emerging concept of India as a "first responsible global power” reflects the country’s growing capability and increasing willingness to assume the role of a leading power on international stage. By contributing its resources to prevent or mitigate regional and international crises, India is demonstrating its commitment as a responsible actor in the international order. It reflect India’s expanding sphere of influence and capacity to shape events in a rising international order.
The Asean-India summit, to mark 25 years of a partnership was an occasion for India to showcase its Supremacy & overwhelming power in Global governance & International political relations.
All 10 leaders participated in the India Asean commemorative summit on January 25 which is being held to mark 25 years of dialogue partnership, 15 years of summit-level interaction and five years of strategic partnership. Leaders from ASEAN nations enthralled by India's military powers & enhance cooperation in defence & Maritime fields.
It is important to emphasize these principles at a time when China's exercise of aggressive power appeared to be weakening Asean. We share maritime and land boundaries with Myanmar other ASEAN countries, have strong historical ties and cultural ties which is clear by the presence of Buddhism in so many east Asian countries. this is an important time for India to ramp up engagement with the region "at a time when we are seeing new US and China policies in this region.
Maritime cooperation and security is the main focus area at the summit with India and Asean agreed to underscore the significance of freedom of navigation and respect for international law in the region. This is significant in the light of growing Chinese assertiveness and irredentism in South China Sea. While looking to realise the full potential of their ocean economy, India and Asean will look to step up cooperation in countering terrorism, piracy and other transnational crimes.
India and Asean countries decided to deepen cooperation in the area of aviation and enhance air-links for better connectivity within the region. India and Asean countries will also strive to establish closer air links to promote tourism, trade, and enhance greater connectivity, international defence & trade.
ASEAN summit has yielded extensive results regarding India's act east policy. It is important to strengthen the partnetship between India-ASEAN nations with ASEAN Leaders agreed their potential in cooperation, strengthen communication and coordination in International affairs, respect eachother core concerns and appropriately handle their disputes. In the near future, south Asia and southeast Asia will be the development engine of the world.
ASEAN is of geopolitical relevance to Indo-pacific strategy, emphasizing an international rules-based order and norms, transparency, governance, international maritime security, and infrastructure is a geostrategic importance for ASEAN nations. India -ASEAN have committed to deepening cooperation which rest on a foundation if shared Democratic values and principles to further strengthen the international order based on the rule of Law in indo-pacific region. India has been working for the creation of regional security architecture in the indo-pacific region that would focus on the peaceful settlement of disputes and finding collaborative solutions to conflicts has yielded extensive results under the narendra modi administration. Leaders from ASEAN nations have reached important agreements on strengthening ASEAN unity, coordination in jointly improving global economic governance and strengthen multilateralism and commitment to deepening quadrilateral relations with ASEAN nations, in particular, and with indo-pacific region, in general, within the framework of Indian government's Act East Policy.
Leaders from South Asian Nations made a strong pitch for greater cooperation between India and the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asia Nations), which would power both regions to mutual economic growth and overall development.
The ties between India and ASEAN have been on an upswing in the last few years with focus being on ramping up cooperation in the areas of trade and investment as well as security and defensnse cooperation.
India-ASEAN have agreed to Cooperate for conservation and sustainable use of marine resources in the Indian and Pacific Oceans in accordance with international law, notably the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and address threats to these resources including illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, loss of coastal ecosystems and the adverse impacts of pollution, ocean acidification, marine debris, and invasive species on the marine environment. In this regard, explore cooperation in the field of blue economy, and take note of India’s proposal for a possible framework of cooperation in this regard.
I the perspectives of china's aggressiveness in south China sea, We affirmed their opposition to unilateral coercive actions by claimants, including the reclamation and militarisation of disputed features, that alter the status quo and increase tensions. Reiterating the importance of the peaceful settlement of maritime disputes through full respect for legal and diplomatic processes, including arbitration, they have emphasised the importance of compliance with the international law of the sea, as reflected in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, including respect for freedom of navigation and overflight and other lawful uses of the sea.
We affirmed the importance of working together to safeguard peace, stability in Indo-Pacific regions & upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2012, and the government has of late sought to further impart strategic content to relations by focusing on stepping up defence and security ties, including with Vietnam. India and Asean are also actively engaged in negotiations on forging a 'regional comprehensive economic partnership', which is expected to emerge the largest Economic Zone.
They have reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, stability, maritime safety and security, freedom of navigation and overflight in the region, and other lawful uses of the seas and unimpeded lawful maritime commerce and to promote peaceful resolutions of disputes, in accordance with universally recognised principles of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and the relevant standards and recommended practices by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). In this regard, we support the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of the Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and look forward to an early conclusion of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC).
ASEAN centrality is key to their Indo-Pacific strategies which would in turn contribute to stability of the Indo-Pacific region. the Indo-Pacific is described as the region from the “west coast of India to the west coast of the United States”. However, India looks at it as a wider region, which extends all the way to West Asia and and the east coast of Africa. Indo-pacific is a cornerstone of India's Act East Policy and geostrategic importance for ASEAN nations. Indo-pacific policy would reinforce the trilateral partnership and its close cooperation towards realising a free and open Indo-Pacific. India, Japan and US agree that free, open, inclusive and international rule-based order is essential to strengthen multilateralism across the ASEAN nations and and also emphasised freedom of navigation and overflights, and the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law and in upholding the rule of law and respecting the sovereignty of nations.
Quadrilateral coalition India-US-Australia-Japan have affirmed ASEAN cooperation in the areas of Indo-pacific as geostrategic relevance in line with international Laws and obligations in promoting free, open, inclusive indo-pacific. Quadrilateral alliance have reached an important consensus in enhancing cooperation that would add new dimensional approach to our Quadrilateral coordination.
The realisation of indo-pacific region has given rise to a new alliances with a primary aim to countering china's assertiveness across IPR & disputed south China sea in which Taiwan, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, the Philippines & Brunnei also claims parts of south China sea. any unilateralism & coercive actions by China is in violations of international tribunal rulings have recommended that China has no historical claims on South China sea, they claimed of India's sovereignty on Territorial international waters. India has Sovereignty and defence capabilities and commitment to freedom of navigation in international waters & UNCLOS. We have underlined the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, stability, maritime safety and security, freedom of navigation and overflight in the region, and other lawful uses of the seas and unimpeded lawful maritime commerce and to promote peaceful resolutions of disputes, in accordance with universally recognised principles of international law.
We called for strengthening and deepening the Asean-India “strategic partnership for mutual benefit, across the whole spectrum of political-security, economic, socio-cultural and development cooperation based on their mutual commitment to working “closely together on common regional and international security issues of mutual concern and ensure an open, transparent, inclusive and rules-based regional architecture through existing Asean-led frameworks and mechanisms.
ASEAN countries have agreed to strengthening existing cooperation in areas of security and counter-terrorism, trade and investment, infrastructure and energy, and culture. India has important contributions to make in addressing global challenges and upholding world peace and security. ASEAN countries have reviewed developments in strengthening of relations with a focus on "extensive" programme of development cooperation and socio-economic assistance.
India-ASEAN nations have adopted a comprehensive approach in combating terrorism and convergence for promotion of peace and prosperity in upholding International Laws and Values of Respecting the Sovereignty of Nations.
With India being an emerging global power and a Liberal nation in international community. India abide by all the applicable international obligations and International Laws on disputes, nuclear nonproliferation, humanitarian intervention, geopolitical disputes and etc. India believes in multilateralism and resolve the disputes by handling the matter appropriately and sensitively in accordance with International conventions of United Nations resolutions and rule of law. India strongly believes in multilateralism and peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law. Indian PM Narendra Modi's affirmative relations with world countries assumes significance for the enhancement of Cooperation and coordination in multilateral agreements by remaining commitment to the establishment of cooperative strategic relations in upholding International Laws and Values of Respecting the Sovereignty of Nations.
